Bryce 3D Art
Bryce is a 3D application specializing in generating landscapes. I got interested in 3D art in mid 2007 when a friend of mine gave me an old version of Bryce for free. My passion for this hobby faded out a couple years later when I began serious photography, but I crack open Bryce now and then for a little fun, sometimes in conjunction with other applications like Wings 3D or Ivy Generator.

Animation
Bryce has built-in animation capabilies, via the keyframing method. The animator sets an object's properties in frame 1, then later down the timeline changes the values of those properties, i.e. location, dimensions, material; this is the next keyframe. The program then interpolates this information to form the frames in between. During the time I was in to animation, I was also heavily interested in astronomy.

MetaRay
"MetaRay"
The animated logo that is used in front of my short films. The logo image istelf was made in Create, and imported to Bryce as a terrain object. I keyframed it in reverse, erasing a small bit of the line for each frame. Sound effects added in iMovie.
Earth-Moon System
"Earth-Moon System"
A model of the Earth and Moon with an emphasis on the lunar phases. Please note that the model is to scale in size, but not in relative distance. The Earth rotates 27.32 times while the Moon rotates once in its orbital period, keeping the same side towards Earth the whole time.

Earth's Revolution

"Earth's Revolution"
As the Earth makes its annual Sun orbit, its axial tilt of 23.6 degrees keeps our seasons varied; that is, the North Pole is facing towards the Sun in June, and away in December. If you look closely, the same side is always facing the sun in this animation, a fail on my part.
Tour de Mars

"Tour de Mars"
A look at Mars and its two moons: Phobos and Deimos, which were named after the two spirits that followed Ares (Mars) wherever he went in Greek mythology. Phobos means fear and Deimos means dread. It makes sense that fear and dread are associated with the god of war.
Planet Wars
"Planet Wars"
"Cyborg aliens have been living on the Moon for many years, waiting and watching for the right time to invade Earth, the planet with all the resources they need." My attempt at an homage to 50's – 60's serial sci-fi television. I never continued the story, because I had written myself into a corner.
Echo Canyon

"Echo Canyon"
Imagine motoboating through an as-yet undiscovered branch of the Calorado River. This animation actually took a whole week to render, as rendering Bryce water requires (relatively) more work, and the old family iMac back then ran at a bleeding fast 333 MHz.
