11:59 pm 1/31/10 - Disco Ball
B+W Disco BallWe have this coolest Christmas tree ornament that's a miniature disco ball. Every year it's placed on the side facing the window so it occasionally catches the low winter sunlight. In this image, I converted the HDR image using Photoshop's built-in B+W converter, which allows you to manipulate the red, green, and blue levels (much like a filter for a lens).

8:30 pm 1/6/10 - Christmas Tree and Reflection
Note: After working for four months I had the necessary funds to purchase a Nikon D90 and 18-105mm VR lens. Most, if not all future photographs will be taken with this awesome camera. In case you're wondering, there was nothing wrong with the Minolta Dimage Z1 I've been using forever, I just need more printing ability than 3 megapixels was giving me.
Christmas TreeReflection1. In this portrait of a Christmas Tree, I didn't capture it as a whole, but made it share the image with the bookshelf, lamp, and chairs.

2. In the Family Room is a couch. At the end of the couch is a table. On that table is a lamp. Halfway up the brass lampstand is a somewhat spherical section that reflects the scene nicely. I laid the camera on a stack of books, myself on the couch, and fired away multiple exposures.

11:00 pm 12/19/09 - Christmas Lights
A few weeks ago I took a point-and-shoot camera, put it in low-light mode (which makes it take longer exposures), and went wild with it: spinning, panning, twirling - all while aiming at the tree. I must of looked real weird doing that with a camera, but boy was it fun!

11:30 am 12/5/09 - Fountain Pond and Glade at Dusk
Here are some more previously unpublished photos. These were taken on one beautiful evening late in September.
Fountain PondGlade at Dusk1. Right beside lake near our house, there's a pond where roses bloom and a fountain sprays upwards in the summer time.

2. On another side of this lake, the walking trail splits and goes around a wetland glade.

7:50 pm 11/24/09 - Jack-o'-Lantern: scary or welcoming?

Scary pumpkinWelcoming pumpkinI often find myself trying to decide if I should use an extreme or conservative tone-mapper on my HDRI's. It always depends on what mood I'm trying convey, but in this instance, I feel that both unsettling and welcoming versions are appropriate when the content is a pumpkin. What do you think?

6:00 pm 11/22/09 - Seven Bales and Moonrise
Yes, I know I haven't posted anything new in exactly 2 months, but I can explain: I've been busier than ever with a part-time job and PSEO courses. However, I haven't stopped doing what I do best, and I'm now catching up on publishing my work. I'll start with some more lake cabin photos that I didn't post before.
Seven BalesMoonrise1. The evening sky was clear as can be, and I still can not think of a more peaceful place than the hay bales across the road from the cabin.

2. After the sun set, the full moon rose above the horizon with a golden glow, brought on by its light having to travel through miles of atmosphere.

11:15 pm 9/22/09 - Loons and Jet Ski Splash
LoonsJet Ski Splash1. On Labor Day weekend up at the family cabin, a couple loons were quietly enjoying the evening until a motorboat rudely
interupted the peace.

2. One of our favorite pastimes is getting drenched on the water trampoline by someone speeding by with the jet ski; except this time I stayed dry.
